ABERDEEN (2)

Town of northeastern Maryland, near Chesapeake Bay, 28 mi (45.1 km) northeast of Baltimore. It is a residential and retail trade center. Vegetable canning is an important industry, but a majority of the labor force is employed at the Aberdeen Proving Grounds, about 3 mi (4.8 km) south, a 75,000-acre (30 350-ha) reservation under the jurisdiction of the U.S. Army Test and Evaluation Command. Here weapons and vehicles are tested under a variety of conditions.
