ABADDON

(Heb., "perdition" or "hell"), word used in job (26:6; 31:12), Psalms (88:12), and proverbs (15:11) to mean, broadly, "netherworld" and "death personified." Rabbinic and New Testament literature's use the word to designate the second department of Gehenna.
