ABSOLUTE

Term used by philosophers to denote the universe itself as a single all-embracing system whose parts necessite each other. For idealists such as Hegel, the Absolute is a completely rational mind or spirit; for mystics such as Plotinus, it is a seamless whole above the level of rational understanding.
